William H. Maloof
William H. Maloof founded Park Place, Inc. and Level Propane Gases, Inc. In both of these enterprises, he pioneered new businesses responding to well-established needs by deployment of new approaches and new technologies. When he founded Park Place, he began the first offsite airport parking facility in the country. Once those using the airport found Park Place, it became a consistently profitable enterprise offering a service that was in consistent demand. His parking lot was so successful that he was able to contribute a portion of the parking lot’s proceeds to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital on a continuing basis.
Maloof noticed that the cost of the propane he used in his parking business consistently spiked every winter. Once he had put together a response to this phenomenon, he recognized a business opportunity in offering propane of consistent quality at a consistent price. On that premise, he founded Level Propane in 1990. With an ever-developing centralized computer delivery system, Level Propane grew quickly until in 2002, it was the eighth largest propane distributor in the United States. In June, 2002, the scheme described in this site drove William Maloof’s enterprise into the bankruptcy court, where the battle continues to this day.
